Personal Statement As I entered into high school, I came upon the realization that I needed to focus on my schooling and figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life. As a freshman, it’s hard enough adjusting to high school cycle along with thinking about one’s future. So I sat nervously in my homeroom for the first time, I thought to myself “What would I enjoy and what would I have a passion for? At first, I considered many options to make my family happy, such as architecture and law studies. Then I met someone who was a tax partner at Deloitte and Touche in Chicago. I admired the way he was so ardent about his work, and he began to explain the firm to me. It sounded like something I would be interested in, so I started to look into it. Accounting is often referred to as the language of a business. Without it, businesses would be chaos. Everything has a set order or method to follow.
Accounting is like a puzzle; every piece has to be analyzed and placed carefully in order for everything to fit. If something is out of place, you have to be able take it apart and put the pieces back together. I am currently taking an accounting class, and I find every piece of it interesting. I love learning how to analyze financial statements and putting pieces together. I plan to do a job shadow at an accounting firm in Chicago in the next few months and somewhat have an idea as to how an accounting firm works.
Throughout the past two years, I have been in and out of the hospital, which means I have missed a lot of classes. But with diligence and persistence, I have continued to remain caught up in my classes. I have been able to keep my GPA over a 3. 0 with all of the obstacles and continue to work hard in my classes. I understand how hard it can be to actually work for something that you want. I have the drive to follow my dreams and accomplish them.
