Obamacare- Afframtive Honorable judge, worthy opponents, diligent timekeepers. Today’s resolve is “Obamacare Should be Repealed. ” My partner and I firmly agree with the resolve. The Affordable Care Act, passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama in March 2010, supposed to provide better health security. But it will result in skyrocketing insurance costs and physicians leaving the field in droves, making it harder to afford and find medical care. Here are the main reasons Obamacare should be repealed : 1. Over $500 Billion In Tax Hikes
Obama Pays For His Government Takeover Of Health Care With Nearly $570 Billion In Job-Killing Taxes On Small Businesses, Investments And Innovation. (Douglas W. Elmendorf, Letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 3/18/10) According to the NY Times, “One-Third Of Employers Subject To Major Requirements Of The New Health Care Law May Face Tax Penalties… ” 2. It Destroys New Jobs: CBO (Congressional Budget Office): Penalizing Businesses Who Do Not Provide Full-Time Employees Insurance Will Encourage Businesses To Cut Hours And Salaried Positions. Alternatively, because firms are penalized only if their full-time employees receive subsidies from exchanges, some firms may instead hire more part-time or seasonal employees. ” 3. Americans’ Health Insurance Premiums Will Skyrocket Health insurers say they plan to raise premiums for some Americans as a direct result of the health overhaul in coming weeks, complicating Democrats’ efforts to trumpet their signature achievement before the midterm elections.
Some Blue Cross Blue Shield plans and other smaller carriers have asked for premium increases of between 1% and 9% to pay for extra benefits required under the law, according to filings with state regulators. 4. Employers Will Pass On Increased Health Care Costs to Workers: Big employers faced with incorporating the first round of health-care changes next month are grappling with how to comply with the long list of new rules. Many companies are also considering changes to their plans–including pushing costs to workers 5.
Americans Want To Keep Their Doctors And Health Care Plans: Obama pretends that because the law doesn’t order you to change insurers, that means you can keep what you’ve got. That’s not true! The law’s mandates will force insurers to make drastic changes, making it inevitable that millions of Americans will lose the coverage or the doctors they have — or both. 6. Over $500 Billion In Added Debt: First off, $247 billion — the 10-year cost of the fix — is one whopper of a ‘discrepancy. … President Obama has vowed that health reform will not add a single dime to the deficit — but he is seemingly unfazed about adding more than a quarter-trillion dollars to the deficit by changing the Medicare reimbursement formula without finding a way to pay for it. … Our Plan: Given the above mentioned ineffective and costly Obamacare, the affirmative team has come up with a plan We will provide a free health care plan for the citizens that are under the poverty line.
Also, we will reduce substantially the costs of health care for the middle class, so they all will be able to afford the cheaper plan. Thus, everyone (the poor and the middle class as well) will still have a health care plan. We would like to put this plan into affect immediately in order to prevent a crisis, since our health care system is about to collapse. We will get the money to implement this plan by increasing the taxes on the rich people and rich corporations through progressive taxing.
Statistics show that big corporations are making billions and have more money than ever, while the middle class and the poor suffer. This healthcare plan can be beneficial towards everyone and in addition the rich would only lose a small fraction of their money to benefit the entire nation. In light of the above, Obamacare plan is not practical, it will hurt the professional medical field as well as the economy in general. Therefore we, the affirmative team, believe that obamacare should be repealed. Thank you, .
